Designing Our Kitchen and Combining Open Shelving and Cabinets
When it comes to the design of our new home, the kitchen design is my #1. Today, I want to chat about how I plan on combining open shelves and cabinets in our kitchen. As this is where we will spend most of our time, I want this space to feel very bright and open.
The builder we are going through provides a certain set of standard items, one of which are these Aristokraft Cabinets. I have picked the design pictured below in white. The photo below is the exact layout of our kitchen and cabinets. The only differences are the flooring, backsplash, paint, and hardware on the cabinets.
I asked a lot of questions and made requests
After some back and forth, I requested that we remove the upper cabinets on the left side where the window is and to expand the window to a 48″x48″ pane. With the deletion of the standard upper cabinets, we will receive a credit to our account. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. With that credit, I’ll be installing brass brackets with marble shelves.
Take a look at the final look of our kitchen. As you can see, I removed the upper cabinets and expanded the window to a 48×48 window pane. I added brass brackets with marble shelving. Another change I made that was different from the model home, is I added a stainless steel range hood, which you can spot in the photo below. I’m very happy that I decided to add open shelves and cabinets in our kitchen.
So what do you think of my design? Would you delete cabinets and add floating shelves? How do you feel about combining open shelves and cabinets? I think it really opened our kitchen up.
